Aisling Edwards

Aisling Edwards (b.2000) is a British Fine Artist working with photography and sculpture and is currently based in Monmouthshire, South Wales. Her practice examines how landscapes are shaped through systems of control, intervention, and time.

Working primarily through long-term projects, she returns repeatedly to specific locations, building a sustained understanding of place through observation. Her work often focuses on environments where natural processes and human structures intersect, including sites shaped by agriculture, ecology, and military use.

Central to Edwards’ practice is the art of revisiting. By returning to the same landscape over time, she traces subtle and often imperceptible changes - where boundaries shift, interventions fade, and new traces emerge. This method resists the idea of a single decisive image, instead constructing meaning through accumulation and duration.

Her work also operates through temporary intervention. Using found materials, Edwards produces sculptural interventions into the landscape, which are later removed or deteriorated by nature itself. These actions are not intended to alter the land permanently, but to momentarily mark it - creating a dialogue between presence and disappearance.

Photography functions as both record and evidence within this process. It preserves traces of these interventions and observations, allowing transient moments to be held and reconsidered over time.

Across her practice, Edwards explores how landscapes carry layered histories of use - where ecological systems, human activity, and structures of control coexist. Her work reflects an ongoing interest in how these forces shape the land, and how they can be understood through sustained, long-term engagement.

Her practice was further developed through mentorship with Dr. Yan Wang Preston as part of the Redeye Graduate Scheme (2021 - 2022).
